OK, so this is really important so please do read this 'til the end. It has been quite a journey for us, we've faced a some backlash but we stuck to our guns as we believe we are doing good overall. We could be wrong and we have been wrong before. So it is, as always, great to hear our customers' suggestions as you are our greatest teachers. Please contact us via the contact page for this.
Let's start here...(1) We simply cannot rely on our local councils to recycle our plastic waste. We had this realisation a while ago after some education via the news and our customers. Please see the below video to understand why:
And of course, if our plastic can end up on a Malaysian beach, it can also end up in the sea and inside the stomachs or around the necks of ocean life. Yes, this sounds shocking but it is true. So, this meant that we had to create our own closed-loop recycling system. Yes, it is not perfect, but it is better than our current "solutions", which are diabolical.
(2) We use black plastic in our products as we are trying to get rid of the myth that black plastic cannot be recycled. This is something that will take a lot of work but is worth it. Imagine how much black plastic is thrown into our bins due to the thinking that it is impossible to recycle? It is not! The solutions exist, it is just that our local councils don't have them. It could be said that black plastic is actually easier to recycle because the plastic is already dyed black whereas when plastics of other colours need to be coloured black during recycling.
A final closing note: as mentioned earlier, we do realise that recycling is not the best solution. However, it is a great solution for a right now and we cannot ignore the challenges our earth (and especially our oceans) face right now. We are creating better and much greener solutions which will lead to cutting plastic production off at the source, which is the most ideal goal so please support us on this journey.
